Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie

There were some gorgeous fruits on sale at the local supermarket yesterday and we bought ourselves a couple of boxes each of strawberries, blueberries, bananas and mangoes. When my son opened the refrigerator this morning, he was greeted with an entire shelf of his favourite fruits and until now he has been bugging me for 'more strawberries' and 'more blueberries'. Seeing how it has been a week since I made my last container of smoothie, I decided to make this beautiful purple concoction with some of the fresh strawberries, blueberries and a banana - after a couple minutes of whizzing, voila! Strawberry Blueberry Smoothie!

The weather here in Singapore is perpetually hot and humid, there are no 4 seasons here, just summer all year round and recently is has gotten even worse than ever. It really is the best excuse to make icy-cold drinks, smoothies and popsicles.

The strawberries that we bought are huge! They are so plump and so red, I can just imagine how sweet they must be. The blueberries that we got are crazy sweet as well. As such, I decided to add the juice of half a lemon into the smoothie to balance out the extreme sweetness of all the fruits combined. I also added loads of ice cubes to make this smoothie freezing cold, to beat the extreme heat.

In the end, I only managed to take a few sips of this delish Strawberry Blueberry smoothie, because the rest were completely zapped by the kids! The entire glassful was finished in less than 5 minutes, and before I knew it there was none left for me. If you have children at home, remember to make doubles of this recipe!
